After receiving the Prix Emile Hermès last October, the designers collective UNQUI, made of 4 former Strate Collège students (Arnaud Le Cat, Coralie Frick, Esther Bacot, and Luther Quenum), received a star at the Observeur 12 for their “506” project.

506

Project description: to bring a simple and effective use innovation while giving meaning to an object that is usually neutral and silent. The thinking process and research led to propose a simple head (tap) which visually indicates the opening.

This project is the first collaboration with an industrial SME based in Abbeville, France, and which doesn’t call very often for designers: Comap Industries. Originally, Comap developed a new type of manual knob for thermostatic taps placed on radiators (it adapts to the different thread diameters). It was about modernize existing heads. Pressure on costs being high and with a lot of technical constraints, the proposal scope seemed very limited, especially for a small project like this one.

Design date: 2010

Edition status: En vente

Exhibition and prize: Star of the Observeur awards 12 (exhibition at the Cité des sciences et de l’industrie, from November 9, 2011 to March 11, 2012).
