    Joseph Colin

    Eyengi

The scientific community alerts us everyday: the planet’s biodiversity is in great danger. The Earth risks undergoing its sixth great extinction of its history. But, contrary to the others, this time, man will be the cause of it. Greenhouse effect, hole in the ozone layer, massive deforestation; the tropical forests main biodiversity reserves, are the most directly affected. Protecting them therefore becomes a vital objective for humans. What role can have a designer?

Eyengi - Joseph Colin - Diplôme 2006Joseph Colin’s response is called Eyengi, which is the name of the God guardian of nature for an African pigmy tribe.
The main idea is that tourism, if respectful of the environment, may lead to the preservation of those lands.
If they are better known, they will be more appreciated, estimated and therefore preserved. So it is necessary to offer these ecotourists the tools for a respectful discovery of the environment. Joseph’s Eyengi rucksack includes the necessary objects to explore primary forests. It can also be used in less exotic or wild contexts: in occidental countries for example. It will then have a pedagogic role, initiating to life conditions in wild countries and to passion for the diversity of living creatures.
