Everybody knows the famous statement of Henry Ford, founder of the car
industry: « customers can have any colour they want as long as it is
black. » With taylorism, also standardization developed. And though it
often meant lower prices, it also led to uniformization of the
offer. However, nowadays there is a strong demand for personalization, to
which some industries – like the computer industry – have successfully
answered. The car industry has yet little responded to this demand of
personalization. How then is it possible to combine industrial standardization
with the new drivers’ needs for personalization ?
Drawing
her inspiration from the design logic of Dell computers, Marie Sanou created
Be
mine. From the Internet to the car
dealer, a whole service architecture allows the client to choose each element of
his car’s cockpit. On the basis of an MPV, Marie has imagined
new adaptability that permits to personalize the interior of one’s car, for a
short or long time, according to one’s needs and wishes. Seats, covering,
accessories, leisure, everything is personalizable, all the more that some
components include technological elements (screen material or thermo-sensitive
material). With her four examples of configuration
(Be Nature, Be Sport, Be TIC, Be
Ludic) Marie illustrates how wide the choice
offered by her system is.
