    Alexis Willis

    nanoroom

    Alexis Willis

How can one solve the problem of modularity in modern housing?
For instance, nowadays the lounge, quite an emblematic room, is used by very different people (seniors, adults, teenagers, children) and for very different purposes (resting, eating, reading, working, partying…)
How can one satisfy all the combinations people/purposes?
What new modularity can one implement ?

    nanoroom - Alexis Willis - Diplôme 2006Nanoroom, Alexis Willis’s solution, is radical! Let’s imagine…
What if we could make furniture appear and disappear according to our wishes? And if we could directly act on the very essence of matter: atoms? What if we could control communicating matter? Imagine all the possibilities we would be offered!
Based on the last discoveries on nanotechnologies, Alexis has imagined a special room, Nanoroom: its walls are made of a flexible screen-membrane that can be animated at leisure, and which contains millions of nanorobots able to gather according to the programmes transmitted to them. Then tables, chairs, sofas or bookshelves appear and disappear at will.
