At Strate, we give first priority to drawing:
it is the essence of the designer’s expression.
During their whole training at Strate, our students practice all
artistic techniques with teachers who are also
professionals:
Drawing: Analytic Drawing (observation), Perspective,
Descriptive Geometry (construction), Sketching
(explanation), Illustration (translation), Life Drawing
(expression).
Volume: Modelling (feeling), Sculpture (shaping), Rough
Model Creation (showing), Prototyping (making it work,
validation).
Culture and
History: History of Art (major trends, schools of
thought), History of Design (the object in its historical and social
context), History of Industry (major benchmarks of industrial
conception).
As the writer has its own style, the
designer, when drawing, is looking for a sensitive expression reflecting
his originality and his personality. Artistic training also develops
the command of volume. A designer, according to us, must be able to
justify and argue in favour of his choices in terms of shape, proportions,
colours… Finally, artistic culture deals with art history, industry
history, design and objects history.
A designer has
to know the techniques and the methodologies specific to the industry
until he can master his own conception and representation
tools:
Definition, development, fabrication,
distribution, maintenance, servicing and recycling of the
object.
In addition to the creativity methods,
each course (from humanities to drawing and the projects) participates to
the creative approach. On a termly basis, various professional
designers assign the realization of more and more complicated projects,
with specifications concerning more and more areas of design. Some of
these courses are taught in English, by foreign designers. In fifth year,
all students take the TOEIC exam (Test Of English for International
Communication). |
